Festivals and holidays

Morocco's calendar blends national holidays, Islamic celebrations that follow the lunar calendar, local moussems and international festivals. Exact dates change each year, so always check current listings.

Religious celebrations

Ramadan, Eid al-Fitr, Eid al-Adha, Islamic New Year and Mawlid follow the lunar Hijri calendar and shift by about 11 days each year.

Visiting during Ramadan

Daytime fasting changes opening hours, but evenings are lively. Be discreet when eating or drinking in public during the day, and book travel well ahead for Eid.

Moussems

A moussem is a local pilgrimage and fair, often around the tomb of a saint. The Tan-Tan moussem is recognised by UNESCO.
