Travel

Getting around Morocco

Trains, shared taxis, buses, flights and mountain roads connect a country designed for varied journeys.

Trains (ONCF)

ONCF runs conventional and high-speed trains. Al Boraq links Tangier, Kenitra, Rabat and Casablanca. Other lines link Casablanca and Rabat with Meknes, Fes, Taza and Oujda, and Casablanca with Marrakech.

Buses

CTM and Supratours are the main long-distance operators, serving cities without railways such as Essaouira, Chefchaouen and Agadir. Book ahead on busy routes.

Taxis

Petits taxis operate within cities and are colour-coded per city; ask the driver to use the meter. Grand taxis are shared cars that run fixed routes between towns.

Flights

Royal Air Maroc and low-cost carriers link airports such as Casablanca, Marrakech, Agadir, Fes, Tangier and Ouarzazate. Domestic flights save time for long distances, such as to Dakhla or Laayoune.

Driving

Driving is on the right. Motorways are good, but mountain roads and city traffic can be demanding. Many travellers prefer a driver for the desert and High Atlas.
